Long time coming

Meh I seriously need to stay focused in school it's really really tiring and boring as hell I practically feel sleepy every lesson it's not just maths in fact I don't even feel sleepy in maths even though I detest the subject it's the ones like economics geography and gp that are killing me! Subjects that I am supposedly suppose to be good at
What's it suppose to mean if she declines your invitation to have lunch with you and your friend? It does not necessarily mean that she does not want to go out with you or anything like that yah? But then again if she does like you she would have accepted the invitation. Still not the right time to make my move yet but I am going to make a promise to myself that I will tell her how I feel about her by the end of this year, I think that's pretty much more than enough time to gather enough courage!
be a man, do the right thing!

Culture essay

Culture

Culture influences everything, from body to mind and to our very own personality. Its mark is burnt into every way we can physically or mentally manifest ourselves. Culture is a defining factor for who we are and what will we become. What is culture? Culture refers to the relatively specialised lifestyle of a group of people consisting of their values, beliefs, artefacts, ways of behaviour and ways of communicating(page 100, Communication organisation and innovation 2nd edition). In this essay i will cover the following – Singaporean culture, my value system, the behaviour expected of oneself and my communication strategies. The effect of Singaporean culture on my communication. New Zealand culture - its differences and similarities and issues that may arise – influencing the communication with a person from another culture.

Singaporean culture is a fusion of many different cultures, we are a mix of Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian. Singapore is neither Eastern nor Western, we are unique as our National Tourism Moto suggests “Uniquely Singapore”. As a small country like Singapore with a population of five million, the races with different cultures intertwine with one another, with each culture influencing the other, over time a new culture is formed - the unique Singaporean culture. One prominent feature of the Singaporean culture is the high regard toward the older workforce. Singapore views the older workface as an asset, we believe they are a gold mine full of work experience and knowledge. The government of Singapore has passed a law making it mandatory to offer re-employment to older workers above the age of 55 – 67. Singapore considers this to be very important in our growth as a nation.

The Values we observe in Singapore revolves mainly around the family such as showing filial piety to our parents and to respect our older counterparts. In Singapore, a child must take care of his or her elderly parents once a need arises, as it is repayment for what the parents did when raising the child. Behaviour in Singapore is highly regarded. Singaporean culture enforces the need to be well behaved at all times, Singaporeans do not condone misbehaviour: an example of unruly behaviour is talking in class. If a student is talking in the middle of a class the teacher will view it as a sign of disrespect, the student would then be then told off and punished for his actions. This describes the culture of Singapore of its value system and behaviour standards.
The communication strategy when I first came to class was to find common ground with somebody, once i found a common ground I could converse with them and it would be easier to build a friendship. This was done with whippin, as we both are foreign students it was easy to relate to him and become friends. This is my views on my culture, the values I was brought up with, behaviour expected of me and my communication strategy

My culture has largely influenced the way I communicate with people in New Zealand. It is highly unnatural for me to jump on my feet and contribute in class. Teachers would probably find me too quiet and reticent. In a sense, I have been conditioned by the learning culture in a Singapore school and I have found my comfort zone in hiding in this small space. However, I do find permissive environment in New Zealand schools as refreshing as the weather. On the bus the simple good morning from the bus driver took me by surprise, in Singapore culture everyone keeps to themselves not even a smile in Singapore while in new Zealand you get the whole package, during the first week of arriving in Christchurch i had to remind myself to say good morning, to call the teacher by the first name instead of calling them Mister, misses or miss. My culture has influenced me greatly especially in the way I communicate with people.

New Zealand culture and Singaporean are two very distinct cultures, let us see if we can find any similarities or differences. One difference is that New Zealanders are very laid back compared to Singaporeans where being a workaholic is common, New Zealanders in my personal opinion tend to enjoy life while Singaporeans with their ‘kiasu’(which means scared to lose) mentality work till their death and never enjoy life. Another difference in New Zealand and Singapore culture is the conception of justice. New Zealand believes in rehabilitation in changing ones ways, even for murder, while
Singapore retains both corporal punishment (in the form of caning) and capital punishment (by hanging) as punishments for serious offences. (Wikipedia Criminal law; Singapore). New Zealand is very lenient on sentencing while Singapore is harsh, very harsh.

Although New Zealand and Singapore have many differences, they both still have common ground, since both Countries were colonized by the British empire. New Zealand and Singapore both have the same concept of the notion of modesty, in my time in New Zealand I have not seen anyone dressed inappropriately, in actuality they dress very similar to what people wear in Singapore ( without the cold weather clothing). Another similarity is the conception of cleanliness, New Zealand and Singapore cultures both promote being clean and green is the way we should live, placing recycling bins all along the streets to hinder littering and to keep the country clean. Both enforce keeping the streets clean through active measures such as a fine (
An Auckland council is hiking the fine for littering from $100 to $400) and for Singapore (Drop trash on the ground in this Southeast Asian city, and you'll pay $1,000)

Issues always crop up when trying to communicate cross culturally. One such issue is the lack of understanding with one another through different expressions, one such example was given by Richard Draper when one of his kiwi friends told his English friend “I want to go out and suck a nice fag” to me as a Singaporean it instantly made me think that the kiwi was homosexual, but that was not the case, he actually wanted to go out for a smoke. It shows that these expressions not commonly used in the other culture can create misunderstanding. Another issues that can appear is being offensive unknowingly, in Singaporean culture it is a big taboo for couples to show affection openly to one another, it is frowned upon, while a couple from New Zealand or some other country may come to Singapore and do that it will be considered offensive. These are some issues that come with cross cultural communication.

In conclusion, culture has affected every way I communicate with anyone, it has shaped my perception filter and my life.
It is an undeniable fact that culture plays a leading role in the drama called life

I am over weight and I am a very friendly, kind nice person and I notice that when I go to church or to the store people don't seem to want to be around me. I take care of myself I have very nice clothes and I get my hair done. I just don't get why beautiful people can't talk to or be friends with me. I know that I am fat & maybe I am ugly, but I just don't understand.
I guess I really don't get that with people that treat me like that in Church of all places, sure they smile at me but I am never invited to their homes with other members of the congregation. I don't choose to be fat & ugly but this has been a struggle with me my whole entire life. I don't smell, I don't choose to be this way either believe you me.
I can't begin to tell you skinny people how many attempts I have made to end my life it sucks being fat, but what really sucks is how we are ostracized in society. We are not all lazy, as a matter of fact I could work circles around many skinny people and my home is immaculate.
The next time you pass judgment on someone being overweight don't just assume that all we do is sit around and shove food in our mouths. You are very very fortunate to not to have to struggle with the fat gene.
1. STOP PLAYING THE VICTIM. You say: "I don't choose to be fat..." Uhm... YES YOU DO. I saw someone who wrote about how she stopped playing the victim and lost 90lbs. You have a choice, you can either be the back seat passenger or the driver of your own life. You CAN take action today and choose NOT to be fat. You say you aren't lazy and can "work circles around skinny people"... really? Why not take that drive towards your health? There is plenty of advice use it.
2. Stop generalizing. Not all "skinny" people hate you. It's all in your head. And as you can no doubt see, not ALL skinny people live in this fantasy land that you had in mind. Know your strengths, and ignore your weaknesses.
3. You've tried to end your life? Why because a couple douche bags spoke harsh words? Life must mean nothing to you then. It must be empty and meaningless right? Well guess what, it IS. But that's a GOOD thing, because then it's what you MAKE of it. Life doesn't give you a purpose, you FIND your purpose. Someone endured 9 months of agony to give you life, the least you can do is make the most of it.
In the end, you've got to change the way you think. People aren't nice to you because you play the victim, this means you have 0 confidence, and 0 confidence = 0 attraction.
There are 6 billion people on this planet, and because of technology we can meet and communicate ANYONE at a rapid pace, this means we have short attention spans... therefore people only want to associate with others who are like-minded and of some value to them.
THIS is the harsh $hit that MOST people are either too wussy to tell you or something they just don't accept. I've just given you the sneak peek inside the matrix... do with it what you will.
Good Luck

Back in Singapore, we had a very different culture from here. Our culture was a fusion of many different cultures, Chinese, Malay , Indian and British. I came from a Asian culture and hence was brought up with traditional values, however Singapore is unlike any other Asian Country. We are less conservative than our neighbouring counterparts. We are neither Eastern nor Western, we are unique as our National Tourism Moto suggests “ Uniquely Singapore”.
We Singaporeans speak English as our main language and thus we are able to communicate with visitors from other countries comfortably. Being a ex colony of the British we are westernized to a certain extent and are influenced by Western systems. Our education system is modeled after the British Education system and take the  same exams as British students, our law system was inherited from the British. Which is different here in New Zealand as you guys have your own education system.
Regardless of the many diverse races and religion, Christianity,Islam,Buddhism,Hinduism, we are able to live in peace and harmony. Everyone gets along with each other and have friends of different races. Churches can be seen built next to different places of worship, and cultural exchanges are often promoted in school.
Apart from English, students in schools here study one mother tongue language out of respect and  for cultural reasons in school. As part of the multi-cultural ethos of the nation, one language was chosen to represent each of the four major ethnic groups.  Malay is the national language but 85% of Singaporeans do not speak Malay. Our National Anthem is in Malay so is our national Motto and Military Parade drill commands. This is in recognition of the Malay people as the indigenous community in Singapore.

Something about us.

It might not be the right time
I might not be the right one
But there's something about us I want to say
Cause there's something between us anyway

I might not be the right one
It might not be the right time
But there's something about us I've got to do
Some kind of secret I will share with you

I need you more than anything in my life
I want you more than anything in my life
I'll miss you more than anyone in my life
I love you more than anyone in my life

penniless

i have no money for this whole month. no money. and i won't have money left for next month, cos i've borrowed way too much from the class fund.

So Close!

I was so close to telling her how i felt about her today. We were all sitting together on the same row and i was talking about relationships with my other friend when she asked me Who i liked?. I was dumbstruck lol, totally didn't know what to say but i tried to keep a straight face and told her i couldn't tell lol. It'd be akward was all i could say. ):

I just can't tell you, i'm really sorry i wanted to but i didn't know if that was a wise decision, just in case you didn't feel the same way i did. It could be a hint thou, lol i don't know i hope it was. i really do.

Remember when i caught your eye
You gave me rainbows and butterflies
We did enjoy a happiness When our love was over
I was such a mess

I smiled at you And you smiled back
That's when i knew There's no turning back.

You're in my mind
You're in my heart
I wish i knew right from the start.
All my friends said You'd break my heart.
A heartbreaker right from the start.

I tried to fight it
I tried so hard
And everyday i prayed to god
That you and me
Were meant to be
But you had another
You had a lover.

And now it's dark
I don't know why
I feel like crying
Just want to die
I can't look at you
And you know why
Though i tried so hard
To catch your eye.

Commitment, Rugby

Lol, I was totally soaked up in MUD Today. Literally a mud bath. Covered from top to toe with warm fresh mud water and boots soaked with water. Sweat and grass pieces, covered any visible part of my body.
So A Divisions' coming up in a week and i'm putting in all my best just to show these guys i'm more than just a big lump of flesh who's only job is to tackle.

OMEN

The writings on the wall, it won't go away. It's an Omen

There's a reason why i've made my blog private.

It's private for a reason.
Being in a new environment and having different people around me its dawned on me that i can't behave the way i used to before ( lolcaptainobvious). So things i post here might be offensive to certain people and i don't want hurting anyones feelings. Plus this blog has like a ton of heavy history some people should not know. Some things can only be told in time and at the moment its too early to let anyone know about my past.

:)

Sometimes i wonder where am i in your life? Am i of any significance at all to you? Sure we talk a lot and chill out together during breaks and such but who exactly am i to you? A good friend? Just a friend? Or someone special? Cos to me you play a huge role in my school and outside life. I think about you a lot, even when i don't see you. School's more enjoyable whenever you're around. Your smile, your laughter the cheerfulness in your eyes and how pure you are. Occasionally i'd look at you through the corner of my wandering eyes, hoping you would notice that i have feelings for you. I really would like to tell you how i feel about you but i am afraid it might ruin our friendship and i don't want that to happen. If we have to stay as friends just so i can be around you and hear your voice and talk to you then let it be. I'd rather much prefer that. Yes i do.
