dad

It's probably a lot of things stemming from his own youth and his own father, the cultural environment he grew up in, and how his brain is built. It's clear he's always had certain ideas and expectations about you, but was unprepared for how you grew away from them. These aren't abnormal or unusual crises to have with a parent, so don't feel as though you're alone or isolated when it comes to having a very difficult relationship with your father.

If he's uncomfortable talking with you about you —it probably puts him on the spot and reveals to him how much he's failed you, and that makes the guilt all the more intense— then give him a letter. It'll be there for him to read when he's ready, but it will drag on his conscience much more than if you try and sit down with him. In that letter, you can describe yourself and your dreams and your accomplishments so far, and you can also express just what you did to us: that you love him even when you have little in common. And you can say, if you believe it yourself, that you'll have that love for him, no matter how the times get difficult with his personality or inattentiveness.

You might also want to look to your own ideas and expectations for what a father is supposed to be and see if you aren't holding him to an ideal a more honest examination will reveal as impossible or highly improbable for him to attain. Some dads just suck. But you love yours, so how that love negotiates through the ideals you hold your father to makes a world of difference for how these kinds of emotional distance will be overcome.

I failed out of college and had to move back to my home town, and am currently living with my parents working full time and saving almost all my money for who knows what. All my old highschool friends are either gone, changed, or alcoholic/potheads, so I mostly just read or watch movies after work and on my weekends, and I'm tired of feeling lonely. My dilema is this. I want to move out. To move out I need to meet roomates, to meet roomates I need to make new friends, to make new friends I need to go out and meet people my age. To meet people my age I need to go to bars/clubs, but the problem is that I have very religious, overprotective and judgemental parents, who will kick me out if I go out drinking. So I'm stuck in a rut. I've tried looking on OKcupid to meet some girls but the few that actually interested me only replied a couple times and the ones who did message me first are kinda not really interesting to me. I need to think of some new hobbies I can try where there will be girls/guys my own age so I can make a new group of friends.

I've been rotting away after moving home 8 months ago and I really regret failing college, I had a great group of friends there but sadly they're a few states away. I need to change something with my life before things get more out of hand than they already are. I've put on some weight and have gotten much more socially awkward around people due to my reclusiveness, in college I was pretty outgoing and sociable.

I know there's not really a specific question in here, but any sort of input would be appreciated :/ If anyone has been in a similiar situation, where did you meet people, and what hobbies did you take up?

At all events my own essays and dissertations about love
and its endless pain and perpetual pleasure will be
known and understood by all of you who read this and
talk or sing or chant about it to your worried friends
or nervous enemies. Love is the question and the subject
of this essay. We will commence with a question: does
steak love lettuce? This question is implacably
hard and inevitably difficult to answer. Here is
a question: does an electron love a proton,
or does it love a neutron? Here is a question: does
a man love a woman or, to be specific and to be
precise, does Bill love Diane? The interesting
and critical response to this question is: no! He
is obsessed and infatuated with her. He is loony
and crazy about her. That is not the love
of steak and lettuce, of electron and proton and
neutron. This dissertation will show that the
love of a man and a woman is not the love of
steak and lettuce. Love is interesting to me
and fascinating to you but it is painful to
Bill and Diane. That is love!
